Brooklyn’s Finest

By Jeff Niesel
Sal (Ethan Hawke) is a dirty cop who will do anything to feed his family. In the film’s opening scene, we see him blow a guy away and grab his cash. Eddie (Richard Gere) has got seven days left on the force until he retires. But he gets assigned to a new program pairing veteran cops with younger ones and finds himself in hot water after his partner shoots a young teen. Their stories take place simultaneously in Antoine Fuqua’s gritty film that’s well-crafted and features several fine performances. Too bad its story about corrupt cops is so played out.
