Attack! Attack! recently released its self-titled sophomore album (Rise Records). The band’s songs are a jumble of musical trends, such as hard-core screaming, T-Pain-like auto-tuned vocals and lots of synthesizer. The band is able to differentiate itself from others using these elements, which create a solid record in the process. The quintet’s lyrics are a mix of typical teen heartbreak and passive-aggressive anger with a few faith-based metaphors thrown in a few songs.
With hardcore music, it’s easy for all the songs on an album to sound the same or to blend together, but Attack! Attack! proves otherwise. “Renob, Nevada” is a hard-rocking track that utilizes tempo changes and different vocal styles, in contrast to “Lonely,” a heavily synthesized track with completely clean vocals. Though the band’s sound is typical of many acts on the Vans Warped Tour and others on the scene today, Attack! Attack! stands out from the pack.
