The Watson Twins
Talking To You, Talking To Me

The Watson Twins may have experienced their first taste of fame while backing Jenny Lewis on her album Rabbit Fur Coat, but these identical twins have since solidified their fan base on their own. Talking To You, Talking To Me is the group’s third album of original material, and while it shows them staying true to their folksy pop vibes, the opening track “Modern Man” offers a slightly more alternative tone—at least in instrumental terms. Chandra and Leigh Watson’s voices are still as pure as ever, yet their vocals have a strength behind them that gives the album substance.
As can often be the case with strong singer-songwriters, choosing a highlight of the album is difficult, but “Savin’ You” certainly does set itself apart thanks to the combination of interesting instrumentation, melancholy lyrics and the energy that drives the vocals. That being said, slower songs like “Snow Canyons” deserve special recognition as well, if only because the stripped-down quality of the track and breathtaking piano part showcases just how amazing these twins are as singers.
The Watson Twins have managed to keep their sound fresh on this album without straying too far from the folksy roots that gained them recognition in the first place. Talking To You, Talking To Me would make a great addition to any dedicated fan’s collection and would certainly be an appropriate place for a new one to start.
