Santana
Supernatural Legacy Edition

Campus Correspondent Review By Andy Argyrakis,
Campus Correspondents coordinator

Over 25 million people already own Santana’s 1999 collaborative comeback CD Supernatural, an impressive feat indeed, but one that still can’t convince this deluxe edition is needed outside of die-hards who feel compelled to own every piece of those sessions. The first disc includes a remastered take on the original project (featuring Rob Thomas’ “Smooth” and all the other usual suspects) presented with a slightly crisper sound, though improvement is barely noticeable when played back to back with the initial album.

If any incentives are to be had, they appear in limited capacity on the second disc, including the hippie-tipped Dave Matthews and Carter Beauford assisted “Rain On Me,” the easy going slide contest with Eric Clapton come “The Calling Jam” and Santana’s Latin-infused “Angel Love (Come For Me).” But with a pair of pointless dance mixes and an even lamer “Smooth” instrumental, this double disc repeat once again shows how an accomplished guitar god like Santana was reduced to a mere gimmick-padded side man on his own CD.
