Kraftwerk
The Man-Machine

Campus Correspondent CD review by Andy Argyrakis,
Campus Correspondent coordinator

Not only was Kraftwerk’s 1978 project The Man-Machine (EMI) widely considered the group’s best up until that time, but it was almost unanimously hailed as a giant step forward for the robotic rock movement upon its initial release. And even with over three decades since it originally hit streets, the six track full-length holds up remarkably well and sounds particularly rich in these remastered contexts.

From the rippling “The Robots” to the downright spacey “Spacelab” and the glamorous “The Model,” Kraftwerk once again ups the evolutionary ante, while also turning in an infectiously accessibly affair. “Metropolis” is one of the project’s most notable retro thumpers, though the title track will go down in history as one of the most entrancing and hypnotic in all of electronic music’s lineage.

This remastered title is available individually or as part of the box set The Catalogue (EMI).
