Groove
Black Light

By Matt Conner

The Electronica scene has shifted for well over a decade now, but the Groove Armada duo (Andy Cato and Tom Findlay) continues to remain under the mainstream radar. That doesn’t stop them from continuing to ply their trade with Black Light, the latest installation, in an impressive discography. From action flicks to video game placements, Groove Armada’s tunes find their way into our collective conscious, and it’s usually because the results are silky smooth with their darker textures and moods.

“Look Me In The Eye Sister” fits the bill, adding a guttural electronic edge a la Silversun Pickups. “Shameless” lazily stirs the senses without ever boring a rare, unappreciated feat in today’s electronic scene. “Fall Silent” drones into deep synth chasms, and the retro feel works well. A less dynamic collection than others, Black Light, finds Groove Armada emerging with its most sophisticated set of tracks yet.
