R. Kelly
Untitled
Campus Correspondent CD Review By Billy Sparks
College of DuPage
As an R&B veteran, R. Kelly is responsible for a plethora of hits as diverse as “I Believe I Can Fly” to “The Chocolate Factory.” His latest, Untitled (Jive), follows in the footsteps of previous projects in the sense it’s packed with club tunes, bump n’ grind grooves and bedroom ballads, the latter of which have become the singer/rapper’s signature.
Though he’s still a powerhouse when soloing through the smooth “Exit” or the romantically reflective “Religious,” Kelly is best suited teaming up with more current players in the game. “Number One” is destined to reach that very same chart position thanks to some sultry accompaniment from Keri Hilson, while Robin Thicke brings some extra star power to the sexually-charged “Pregnant.” This record might not have a name per say, but it’s classic Kelly catering to the sounds and themes he delivers best.
