La Roux
La Roux
Campus Correspondent CD Review By Andy Argyrakis,
Campus Correspondent coordinator
For the mainstream masses, the group name La Roux may be relatively new, but to anyone who frequents dance clubs (or health clubs), the newcomers are quickly giving Lady Gaga and international imports Alphabeat a run for its money. That’s because the duo’s dozen track discs is insanely infectious at every turn of contagious phrase, not to mention some of the most hook heavy keyboards since the initial new wave era.
But La Roux is firmly planted in the contemporary class, turning in the former iTunes freebie tune “Bulletproof” with glossy pulsations sure to coax even the shiest listener immediately out of their shell. “In For the Kill” drips with additional club-centered attitude, while “Clourless Colour” is chic European in the purest sense. By the time the record ends with the percolating groove “Growing Pains,” there’s no turning back from the dance floor, nor is it possible to shake these instantly memorable sounds from one’s psyche.
