He’s Just Not That Into You Soundtrack

Campus Correspondent review by Kate Seesholtz,
Belmont University

While the movie received less than stellar reviews, the soundtrack for the film He’s Just Not That Into You (New Line Records), more than makes up for it. The seventeen track disc is loaded with some of the biggest names in the music industry and the songs on the album follow along perfectly with the theme of the movie. There are sexually charged lyrics, like in the opening track “I’d Like To” from Corrine Bailey Rae, as well as those that tell of the unrequited love theme like “Don’t You Want Me?” by The Human League.

The album flows through each song perfectly, taking listeners along on the journey of finding Mr. Right or even just Mr. Right Now. Having a mixture of up and coming artists (such as The Ting Tings and Erin McCarley) and seasoned veterans (Maroon 5 and Keane) helps expose the listener to multiple genres.

The only mistake on the album was a decision to have Scarlett Johansson cover Jeff Buckley’s “Last Goodbye.” The song rounds out the album and would have been better placed hidden away in the middle. While the film may have been geared more towards females, the soundtrack for He’s Just Not That Into You (blunder aside) appeals to any audience.
