Welcome to Florida
The Good Word

Review By Nicole Roberge

Welcome to Florida keeps it light on this, its fifth album, delivering a combination of funk and rock with bits of pop. Basically, they have fun and they want you to have fun, too. The title track opens the album with excitement and energy. Elsewhere, “Here Comes January” is jazzy and warm and “Demons” offers up some funky rock. Fueled by piano and sexy lyrics (“Rebecca, it gets so scary, out of the ordinary when I’m your bitch and I’m your man./Feel as if there’s no control, you’ll break my heart one day I know”), “Rebecca” is the album’s highlight. The disc ends with “Time to Go,” another jazzy piece that shows the band’s musical diversity. A unique band, it features two singer-guitarists who switch off between songs, bringing even more versatility to things. The band may have fun messing around with some lyrics, but it’s evident these guys don’t mess around at all when it comes to music. They’re a talented band that will progress far beyond its Northeast home.
