Beyonce
I Am…Sasha Fierce

Campus Correspondent Review By Kate Seesholtz,

Beyonce is not the first artist to try out an alter ego on an album, but she might have done it the best. In Beyonce’s most recent studio release, I Am…Sasha Fierce (Columbia), she offers listeners a double disc of hits. One album, the I Am side, showcases a softer side of Beyonce. That five song disc is full of ballads, ranging from a retake on the class “Ave Maria” to the heart wrenching “Broken-Hearted Girl.” Throughout both of those cuts, Beyonce shows a softer side of herself that has been left out of the spotlight in recent years.

The album’s second disc, Sasha Fierce, is full of club ready tracks, including the new anthem for girls everywhere “Single Ladies.” Rolling Stone named it the top single of 2008 and it has spurned a YouTube craze parodying its sleek music video. With the constant release of duel singles (one from both I Am and Sasha Fierce), and a recent slot at Barack Obama’s inauguration, Beyonce’s success is sure to continue.
