Dressy Bessy
HOLLERandSTOMP

Review By Chris Pacifico

Dressy Bessy knows a thing or two about mile-high music. Not because the band’s from Denver but because the sky is the limit for the group. The band’s new album is a showcase of smarmy pop and catchy hooks. Just because the act is on the chain connected to the Elephant 6 musical collective doesn’t mean  you should assume it’s making some sort of lazy day tunes pantomiming Magical Mystery Tour era Beatles. Singer Tammy Ealom sings with the vocal sashay of Debra Harry and Adam Ant’s love child as John Hill (whose playing style you may recognize from his duties in Apples in Stereo) makes his axe talk with bratty power chords on “Simple Girlz.” “In Your Headphones” stays more on the swing side with a swinging and hefty dram of attitude as Hill blasts out a guitar lick throughout raising a middle finger to showoff-ish New Wave guitar solos of the past. Probably Dressy Bessy’s best in this post-Kindercore Records era, HOLLERandSTOMP is pop music at its bitchiest.
