Vic Latino Presents Ultra.Mix

Campus Correspondent Review By Billy Sparks
College of DuPage

For those taking classes in a big city, it’s easy to find a whole host of dance clubs mixing together today’s hottest pop hits. But for those in rural communities, chances are groove-infused events are best left to on campus events or the occasional dorm thrown down, in which case Ultra.Mix amply fills the void of an absent downtown DJ. The fifteen track collection is sure to get the party ramped up thanks to its continuous amalgamation of familiar favorites and like-minded underground tracks, tipping off with remixed versions of Danity Kane’s “Damaged” and rolling seamlessly into Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music.”

As the disc progresses, so do the beats per minute, including a sped up rendition of Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland’s “4 Minutes” and Britney Spears’ sugar coated “Piece of Me.” Eric Prydz also contributes the original version of the entrancing “Pjanoo,” while Sharam fittingly teams up with Daniel Bedingfield come “The One.” Even with the enjoyable nature of this compilation, one can’t help wonder if it will hold up over time, simply because the songs contained within are such an obvious products of 2008. In other words, Ultra.Mix is as red hot as right now, but it remains to be seen how long this mantra-filled mash-up will endure.
